These shorts are probably one of my most worn items in my closet,  I bought them a couple years ago by now, but I am still constantly going back to them again and again!  I just love anything that glitters, I cannot resist.  If there is one drawback about my gold sequin pair it’s that they don’t have pockets – I hate not having pockets!  Sometimes when I get dressed I just go for all my favourite things- in this case simple silver jewelry from the Dominican Republic, classic aviators and a patent leather statement clutch pair with polka dots perfectly to complement my sparkling shorts! Metallic heels finish the look for polished city style that’s classic and cool.

I am in love with this blouse, the style is my absolute favourite- when shopping for tunic blouses I often go up a size so they will drape nicer and fall just a little longer.  My other requirements for finding the perfect blouse is 3/4 length sleeves and half button-down – the contrasting black and white  and the polka-dot print had me sold.  I love a chiffon blouse and shorts for summer, its chic and cool!

Neutrals + Neon – easy spring DIY’s

DIY - Glitter Clutch and Neon Cap Toe Heels

hippie accessories - feather earrings, turquoise claw necklace, rings and arm candy

skull ring, heart + cross bangles ALDO  || outfit LeCHATEAU – diy Cap Toe Heels & Glitter Clutch

Spring is finally here in Calgary! (No matter how it tries to get away- get out of here April snow we know you can’t hold on much longer!)  Cedric and I stepped out to enjoy the weather today, he had the best time running around the yard, did you notice him?!  I’m wearing few of my favourite trends for spring- a neutral relaxed top is my key wardrobe piece, I love the sheer back on this one, the light fabric and the cuffed sleeves- it just drapes perfectly for an easy, breezy cool look! Speaking of cool, I am determined to pave the way towards shorts, even though the weather really doesn’t merit it.

Mint and gold are two colors I have been obsessed with for ages- I made this DIY Glitter Clutch around this time last year and am still loving it!  Another spring trend I DIY’d? Neon + Nude ColorBlock Cap Toe Heels– super easy to make and a super cute spring trend to try! Both DIY’s are cheap, fast and easy- just how I like em!

I accessorized my outfit based around my spring inspiration DIY’s. I got this turquoise claw necklace while visiting one of my best girlfriends in Vancouver a few summers ago- she took me to this amazing little vintage shop and I have been dreaming of returning ever since! Whenever I wear it I remember summer fun with a beautiful friend! Subtle stacked gold bangles and mixed metal rings paired with colorful feather earrings add to the easy summer vibe. I’m dreaming of Coachella from Calgary I suppose!

EMERALD CITY

EMERALD IS THE COLOR RULING THE FASHION WORLD AT THE MOMENT…

Which is great news for me because I love wearing jewel tones, particularly Emerald! (Fun Fact: its also my mom’s birthstone) Would you believe that I found this beautiful Steve Madden cape at Winners (around this time last year) on sale for only $24.99!? Obviously that was not a deal to be passed up!!!

I was so excited that I immediately texted my girlfriends that I had bought the most beautiful cape, their response was significantly less enthusiastic than I expected. Clearly they didn’t get it, I mean the color, the tailoring, the price – it was perfect! Truly, they thought I meant something a little more batman-esque. A cape is one of the absolute cutest ways (or most badass, in Batman’s case) to keep warm. Just keep the rest of the outfit simple to let it stand out. Thankfully, my hair is finally getting long enough to make a nice bun! I love being able to put it up in a sock bun in just minutes and look perfectly pulled together!

I really like that the VS one has a hood, like little red riding hood! Which is your favourite? Oh, and did anyone see Oz, the Great and Powerful? What did you think?!

I had a great time shooting with my BFF, twirling around in my cape, feeling a little like Blair Waldorf and pretending Calgary is New York. (New Yorker’s like to complain about winter, I would like to note that Calgary is generally about 20° colder.)  It was freezing out taking these right as a storm was coming in. Such lovely weather we have here, so stay inside and maybe catch a flick.  What better outfit to wear out than a cape, liquid leggings and boots? Simple and chic. I can’t wait to show you guys the rest of these photos!

Emerald City – “You’re Golden Cape” in green by Steve Madden

Oz, the Great and Powerful is released today… inspiring my title, and while my city may not really be Emerald, it did seem a little magical.  March in Calgary means lots of white but temperatures do start rise, the light lasts longer and green slowly but surly starts sneaking though!  Even though I’m not actually headed to see that movie… I like my James Franco a little less child friendly and a little more smoldering.

Enjoy the weekend girls, think of beautiful things!

DIY CLUTCH

Here is the story of my life as a consumer:

Buy something, become obsessed with it for a few weeks, buy something new, immediately forget the old.

That doesn’t really work when I have no job so I’ve been forced to get creative. Now when it comes to purses and wallets- since its something I use every day, I seem to tire of them extra quickly. Occasionally I delve into the box of forgotten purses to take a trip down memory lane and see if there is anything I could be wearing right now. I came up with this gem.. I bought it a few years ago and used it as a wallet (everyone thought that was weird..) because at the time I was taking public transit to my job where I made 7.80 an hour (super fun times). Anyways, I was always carrying a huge bag of stuff with me; work lunches, water bottle, change of shoes, book etc. It got annoying trying to find a small wallet in there, and having to switch my stuff out of my work bag if I wanted to go out so I started carrying this clutch with everything I needed, so that I could just take it out and go. And it worked awesome, so eff the haterz/

~ MINT + GOLD GLITTER COLOR BLOCK CLUTCH ~

here it is in all its glory BEFORE

THE FINAL PRODUCT & HOW I MADE IT:

  1. So step one, find or buy a clutch. ( If you found it, clean it off. Mine is just vinyl so I used a damp towel to wipe it down.)
  2. Using a paintbrush, apply ModPodge generously around the outside edge. (Since my clutch had separate pieces I didn’t bother taping, but if the one you have is all once piece, tape it off before you start to get nice clean lines)
  3. Sprinkle loose glitter over the ModPodge, this is much easier if the glitter comes with a shaker head. Try to cover as much of the glue as possible, use lots of glitter. Once its covered either lightly blow the excess off or gently tap it against the ground (with paper underneath) to catch the glitter. It should go without saying not to touch any of the glitter-glue with your hands or on the ground.
  4. Next I used Martha Stewart “glitter” craft paint in “wintermint” on the main area of the flap. It took me about 20 coats (with many days of drying time between-I AM NOT KIDDING) to get it to be thick enough to look fully glittered. I’ve been obsessed with mint and gold lately so those are the colors I decided to go for. I was experimenting a bit with methods here-  the gold I used modpodge + loose sparkles, the mint- glitter paint. Never again with the glitter paint that’s all I’m gonna say. Its fine if you want a sheer coat of sparkle, if you want it to be covered, its a googleplex times easier to just use loose glitter and modpodge. Leave about an hour drying time for paint between coats, and at least 2 hours for the ModPodge.
  5. Once its dry, tap it against something to remove any loose glitter, then if there is anywhere that needs touched up, use a paintbrush to apply modpodge to the spots that need fixing, and then sprinkle glitter over it (I used the extra glitter that had fallen off of mine.) leave touch-ups to dry for about an hour.
  6. Seal it with one more full coverage coat of ModPodge over the entire glittered surface, leave to dry over night and viola.

HALF WAY THROUGH THE MAKEOVER…

above: the materials i used- purse with paint drying after a few coats. gold sparkles still are unsealed.
