Life’s a Beach

Life’s always a little behind in the blogging world, but these are particularly late, I blame moving week stress! These shots are from last week when it would not stop raining in Calgary.  I dunno if you heard.. onto the outfit! With all the doom and gloom I was craving color so I mixed in bright stripes, while using khaki green as a neutral.  This vest has to be one of the most wearable pieces I own, it’s the perfect layer for transitional weather.  Layered over two of my favourite basics for comfort;  a  cotton long sleeve tee from Aritzia and a modal tank.  I love how the stripes just peek out at the bottom, a soft tank is crucial for layering and modal is a great fabric that feels kinda like if silk and cotton had a love child.  I rolled up the cuffs of these jeans partially because it appealed to my twisted sense of humor (flood pants, get it) and mostly because it showed of these cute striped sneakers.

When it gets to be too rainy and depressing (like when the city has called in the military to deal with the state of emergency and you STILL have to go to work) I just remind myself that life’s a beach.   You can sit on the edge and watch the water go by, or you can jump in! (In this case not literally, don’t be a Nenshi Noun!) I actually don’t mind the rain and can frequently be found splashing in puddles.. sometimes even on my lunch break!   I figure if I must work, I might as well try to make the best of it!

Yes, animal print again…  if you’re over it, too bad for you- it’s my forever love!  This T. Babaton blouse is one of my all time favourites, the fabric is just so beautiful, I love the light color and the drape of the silk.  I got my love of silk from my mum (she’s such a snob about it – polyester is her nemesis) but it really is the best fabric out there,  I’ve said it before, all the best things are made by nature, not man.  Silk is the strongest natural fiber, its hypoallergenic, and it’s also breathable and temperature regulating – meaning it will keep you cool in the heat and warm in the cold! In other words, its bomb-diggity and totally worth the cost, if you aren’t convinced click here.

I found these shorts on a recent excursion to my favourite consignment store, Trends,  in Kensington – it was a great day for thrifting because I found these ones and this gold sequined pair.  I absolutely love a good thrift store find, and these are no exception, combining two of my favourite things – leather and mint.  I paired them with these metallic Guess heels which I am still wearing constantly.  I’ve mentioned before that I  find Guess heels are always the most comfortable.

Favourite Things

When I’m in a rush (which in the morning I often am) I tend to go back to pieces that I really, really love. My favourite color is teal blue, like when you look at the ocean and its the most magical shade – I pretty much like any color remotely close to that blue-green spectrum, which is why this pashmina is possibly my favourite scarf I own. I bought it while I was working at Le Chateau, and I NEVER bought stuff right when it came in, but this scarf was different, as I opened the stock box and unwrapped it from its plastic tomb, I just knew that scarf needed to come home with me. I never regretted it. Maybe this is why I’m okay with no kids – I treat clothing like my little rescue babies. You’ll come home with me my pretties, and I will love you, you will not be forgotten at the back of some unfashionable closet somewhere.

I have similar feelings about these pants ($11), shoes($60), bag ($40) and jacket($35). They have a few things in common, all were on sale – the shoes, bag and skinnies at Winners, the jacket I got at a Le Chateau outlet for half off the sale price. If you go to an outlet and hunt through the racks of polyurethane you will be sure to find a few genuine leather or suede pieces at really great prices! The key to great bargain shopping is patience. I prefer to go alone so no one is waiting on me or, alternatively, slowing me down!

Shades of blue pair so easily together, most people don’t realize that blue is practically a neutral itself! All these pieces are current (or in the jacket’s case, long term) infatuations, so wearing them all together of course just makes me happy. When you are wearing something that makes you feel happy and confident it shows – pairing my trusty leather jacket with trendy mint pants and these killer metallic heels spiked my confidence through the roof. (Okay it didn’t really until I wore this to pick up groceries after work and turned heads in every isle I walked down. I’m certain its the shoes, I caught more than a few people staring at them.) I know Safeway isn’t exactly a catwalk, but the point is that dressing well will lead to feelings of confidence! I’m not the first woman to think so either!

La Mer + Military

faux-leather pants XXI FOREVER  ||  leather pumps LeCHATEAU  ||  nude cross-body bag CO-LAB  ||  military jacket ROTHCO via MissKL  ||  aviators ARDENE  || sage stone wrap watch LA MER COLLECTIONS ||

Today I’m super excited to show you the two latest objects of my desire that have been delivered to my door-step! This amazing military jacket and gorgeous La Mer charm wrap watch.  I ordered this jacket from Miss KL, it being on sale was the reason I could justify buying this top to get free shipping… I wasn’t sure about it when I pulled it out of the box- its a mens jacket so its pretty huge, but a few adjustments (cuffs rolled up, waist cinched in) and I am smitten.

If this last year has taught me anything, its that something good will always come to make up for the bad, as long as you keep pushing forward.  In life there will always be the potential for failure and loss, but you will certainly go no where if you never bother to try.

I’d say given the fact I run a blog, its obvious I believe in putting yourself out there! A huge part of blogging is trolling social media and brand platforms obsessively for inspiration.  I’ve mentioned many times before how much I wanted one of these La Mer wrap watches and even went so far as to DIY my own last summer. So when I saw this Earth Day-Giveaway on instagram, of course I clicked that little like button. Imagine my surprise, and excitement when I woke up the next morning with the notification that I had won! Follow them on instagram here. Its one of those things where if you want something bad enough – some how, some way – you’ll get it eventually! I was super impressed with them. I entered on Earth Day (April 22) the next morning they had notified me I had won, I emailed and within minutes they had e-mailed me a ship confirmation, one week later (to the day) this gorgeous watch had arrived on my doorstep, with a sweet card wishing me a Happy Earth Day.  You guys might have noticed that I am a big fan of the earth, check out the latest on my surface-rights blog here.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the gorgeous watch La Mer, keep up the amazing work! Live your life inspired by adventure!
