Yes, animal print again…  if you’re over it, too bad for you- it’s my forever love!  This T. Babaton blouse is one of my all time favourites, the fabric is just so beautiful, I love the light color and the drape of the silk.  I got my love of silk from my mum (she’s such a snob about it – polyester is her nemesis) but it really is the best fabric out there,  I’ve said it before, all the best things are made by nature, not man.  Silk is the strongest natural fiber, its hypoallergenic, and it’s also breathable and temperature regulating – meaning it will keep you cool in the heat and warm in the cold! In other words, its bomb-diggity and totally worth the cost, if you aren’t convinced click here.

I found these shorts on a recent excursion to my favourite consignment store, Trends,  in Kensington – it was a great day for thrifting because I found these ones and this gold sequined pair.  I absolutely love a good thrift store find, and these are no exception, combining two of my favourite things – leather and mint.  I paired them with these metallic Guess heels which I am still wearing constantly.  I’ve mentioned before that I  find Guess heels are always the most comfortable.

Blue Monday

Mint AE skinny jeans, turquoise Guess heels, teal leather jacket, silver aviators

|| denim – American Eagle || shoes – Guess || leather jacket, pashmina – Le Chateau || sweaters- Sirens || bag – Co-Lab || sunnies – Ardenes ||

Trying to beat the Monday blues by wearing head to toe teal – my favourite color! I’ve been wanting mint skinnies for ages and when I found these ones at Winners for $11 I obviously couldn’t say no, nor could I resist these metallic Guess heels! When it comes to heels, comfort is key, and I find Guess to be one of the best brands for making super comfortable heels, and also, so pretty!

What is your favourite color? And do you ever dare to wear it head to toe? It honestly made my day! Something about wearing all blue just makes me feel just the opposite- happy Monday gorgeous girls!

More often than not, I can be found in some variation of this outfit.

I have to confess, I bought this top knowing full well it looks almost identical to a TNA one I already own.

Two differences- the TNA one, has a pocket AND this Quicksilver one is much longer- that was the real selling point.

Left - Quicksilver Right - TNA

See I have mad love for all things striped and sweatery. Particularly in the grey/black/white family.  So obviously I couldn’t resist adding this gem to my shopping cart in order to qualify for free shipping.  I mean, its like getting the shirt for free, really. As much as I love my other one, its just too short for me to comfortably wear it with jeans, so I’m pretty happy with this one. There’s really nothing I love to wear more than a delicate knit, jeans and sneakers. Throw on a beanie, some bright sunnies and a few special accessories and you are good to go.   Also, say goodbye to my green sunnies, this post is the last you’ll see of them, I lost them over the weekend. (So tragic. This is why I buy super cheap sunnies all the time, I lose things constantly!)

DIY – Nutella Chocolate Christmas Ornaments

The holiday season often means a great deal of gift giving, which adds up quickly. Save cash and impress your friends, family or co-workers with yummy home made chocolates, inspired slightly by my love of Ferrero Rocher, made to look like cute little ornaments, and not to be opened until Christmas!

I used Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Chipits, because that’s what I had available, but I recommend hitting up a bulk chocolate bin- superstore sells Bernard Callebaut!

You can buy pre-made chocolate molds in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but I had this empty egg carton which I figured would recycle perfectly for my purpose! Make sure to use plastic, not paper cartons if you choose to re-purpose your egg cartons as well!

Then set up a double boiler, boil water in a small pot on the bottom, with a metal bowl  resting on top; this will melt the chocolate smoothly and evenly. Be sure to stir consistently.

  1. Pour melted chocolate into the molds, and use a spatula to ensure the entire surface is evenly covered
  2. Sprinkle mixed nuts into the chocolate shell, I used whole walnuts and almonds, approximately 5-7 nuts per chocolate. (Significantly more went into the big almond walnut bark bar.)
  3. Pour remaining melted chocolate into the molds, until even and full. I ran out of chocolate at this point (mental note, one bag of chocolate chips is not enough) so I melted down a half bag of white chocolate chips and made half the batch with that. Sometimes the best things come about by accident.
  4. Place tray in the fridge or freezer to cool, (you can leave it out at room temperature it just takes longer and I have no patience when it comes to matters involving chocolate)
  5. Once fully hardened, spoon a tsp of Nutella onto one of the chocolate halves and squish the other half on top, smoothing out any extra Nutella that comes squishing out of the edges. I used one half milk chocolate and one half white chocolate.
  6. Wrap in tinfoil, twisting at the top. Tie a knot around the tinfoil twist and make a loop using ribbon. Secure with tape if necessary
  7. Then tie a bow around it to cover the tape and ensure again that the loop is secure. If you like, add a color to the tinfoil using paint or permanent marker!

These are the perfect little bobbles to give to anyone on your list – provided they don’t have a nut allergy. Hang them on the tree and unwrap on Christmas morning for a super yummy and festive treat! I’m sure I will revisit this idea when Easter rolls around!

happy holidays! XO – A

What’s on your holiday list this season?

western heritage

back to country roots, and warmer days..

It snowed last night in Calgary. That made me upset, also Ronald the goldfish died, so I am le sad. Today I stayed indoors all day long, ignoring the outside world. It was nice… I got caught up reminiscing about summer and missing my horses. My best friend, Michelle, (above) and I shot these photos in early July, at that time I was looking forward to an entire summer of riding, but only a few days later another horse (not pictured) decided that my pelvis was better off in more than one piece. That was the end of that. So I’m already looking forward to next summer (please, come quickly..) when I can be back out with my girls! I kinda love them.

Get “Beach Hair” – DIY Lightening Spray

Salvage 1 empty product bottle fill and 1/4 full of lemon juice, then add sea salt ~ 3 TBSP worth.. depending on the size of your container.

Fill the rest with water, shake it up and spray it on! Lemon juice lightens and smells nice while the sea salt gives wet hair texture and body.

French braid it while wet after a swim and take it out at night for easy, instant beachy waves. Gradually lightens hair in the sun.

Hair is noticeably lighter after just over a week of daily use.
Apply generously to damp hair and allow to air dry outdoors.

Here is the story of my life as a consumer:

Buy something, become obsessed with it for a few weeks, buy something new, immediately forget the old.

That doesn’t really work when I have no job so I’ve been forced to get creative. Now when it comes to purses and wallets- since its something I use every day, I seem to tire of them extra quickly. Occasionally I delve into the box of forgotten purses to take a trip down memory lane and see if there is anything I could be wearing right now. I came up with this gem.. I bought it a few years ago and used it as a wallet (everyone thought that was weird..) because at the time I was taking public transit to my job where I made 7.80 an hour (super fun times). Anyways, I was always carrying a huge bag of stuff with me; work lunches, water bottle, change of shoes, book etc. It got annoying trying to find a small wallet in there, and having to switch my stuff out of my work bag if I wanted to go out so I started carrying this clutch with everything I needed, so that I could just take it out and go. And it worked awesome, so eff the haterz/

here it is in all its glory BEFORE

  1. So step one, find or buy a clutch. ( If you found it, clean it off. Mine is just vinyl so I used a damp towel to wipe it down.)
  2. Using a paintbrush, apply ModPodge generously around the outside edge. (Since my clutch had separate pieces I didn’t bother taping, but if the one you have is all once piece, tape it off before you start to get nice clean lines)
  3. Sprinkle loose glitter over the ModPodge, this is much easier if the glitter comes with a shaker head. Try to cover as much of the glue as possible, use lots of glitter. Once its covered either lightly blow the excess off or gently tap it against the ground (with paper underneath) to catch the glitter. It should go without saying not to touch any of the glitter-glue with your hands or on the ground.
  4. Next I used Martha Stewart “glitter” craft paint in “wintermint” on the main area of the flap. It took me about 20 coats (with many days of drying time between-I AM NOT KIDDING) to get it to be thick enough to look fully glittered. I’ve been obsessed with mint and gold lately so those are the colors I decided to go for. I was experimenting a bit with methods here-  the gold I used modpodge + loose sparkles, the mint- glitter paint. Never again with the glitter paint that’s all I’m gonna say. Its fine if you want a sheer coat of sparkle, if you want it to be covered, its a googleplex times easier to just use loose glitter and modpodge. Leave about an hour drying time for paint between coats, and at least 2 hours for the ModPodge.
  5. Once its dry, tap it against something to remove any loose glitter, then if there is anywhere that needs touched up, use a paintbrush to apply modpodge to the spots that need fixing, and then sprinkle glitter over it (I used the extra glitter that had fallen off of mine.) leave touch-ups to dry for about an hour.
  6. Seal it with one more full coverage coat of ModPodge over the entire glittered surface, leave to dry over night and viola.

above: the materials i used- purse with paint drying after a few coats. gold sparkles still are unsealed.

~and now i’m in loveeeee ❤

touch of teal.

Today I had to pay a speeding ticket. One of those delightful ones where you don’t even know you got one until it arrives in the mail like a gift from the collection fairy. But I figured I might as well look good doing it.. and since I must admit- speeding is a somewhat regular habit of mine so a little extra cleavage can go a long way in saving $$$ when you get pulled over. I ❤ nice cops!

Anyways, even though I’m looking forward to spring, today I decided to cling a little bit to fall, especially since I recently received these leather motorcycle boots that I ordered from VS! I confess- I’m smitten. They’re the perfect mix between country and rock, and the cognac is an awesome color for any season. To set them off, I paired them with a leather jacket and kept the pallet neutral and with accessories accents in teal & & natural inspired prints and textures on the scarf and bag. ❤

Makeup I kept simple. With a strong brow, blush and bronzer  on cheeks and eyes + vaseline on my lips. I wanted to look light and fresh for this rainy spring day.
