If ever standing in front of the closet in doubt, I just choose black, white and grey.  That in mind, when I found this cardigan and immediately scooped it up;  the sheer front panel and light cotton blend made it the perfect cardigan for over-cast summer days.  My love affair with leather (okay, this is faux!) continues with these studded black loafers, and skinny ankle-zip pants.   I mentioned HERE that I revert to my rocker side for comfort,  so studs, leather, aviators and a skull scarf  is a classic choice for me.

What is your go-to outfit for a comfort day?

These shorts are probably one of my most worn items in my closet,  I bought them a couple years ago by now, but I am still constantly going back to them again and again!  I just love anything that glitters, I cannot resist.  If there is one drawback about my gold sequin pair it’s that they don’t have pockets – I hate not having pockets!  Sometimes when I get dressed I just go for all my favourite things- in this case simple silver jewelry from the Dominican Republic, classic aviators and a patent leather statement clutch pair with polka dots perfectly to complement my sparkling shorts! Metallic heels finish the look for polished city style that’s classic and cool.

I am in love with this blouse, the style is my absolute favourite- when shopping for tunic blouses I often go up a size so they will drape nicer and fall just a little longer.  My other requirements for finding the perfect blouse is 3/4 length sleeves and half button-down – the contrasting black and white  and the polka-dot print had me sold.  I love a chiffon blouse and shorts for summer, its chic and cool!

La Mer + Military

Today I’m super excited to show you the two latest objects of my desire that have been delivered to my door-step! This amazing military jacket and gorgeous La Mer charm wrap watch.  I ordered this jacket from Miss KL, it being on sale was the reason I could justify buying this top to get free shipping… I wasn’t sure about it when I pulled it out of the box- its a mens jacket so its pretty huge, but a few adjustments (cuffs rolled up, waist cinched in) and I am smitten.

If this last year has taught me anything, its that something good will always come to make up for the bad, as long as you keep pushing forward.  In life there will always be the potential for failure and loss, but you will certainly go no where if you never bother to try.

I’d say given the fact I run a blog, its obvious I believe in putting yourself out there! A huge part of blogging is trolling social media and brand platforms obsessively for inspiration.  I’ve mentioned many times before how much I wanted one of these La Mer wrap watches and even went so far as to DIY my own last summer. So when I saw this Earth Day-Giveaway on instagram, of course I clicked that little like button. Imagine my surprise, and excitement when I woke up the next morning with the notification that I had won! Follow them on instagram here. Its one of those things where if you want something bad enough – some how, some way – you’ll get it eventually! I was super impressed with them. I entered on Earth Day (April 22) the next morning they had notified me I had won, I emailed and within minutes they had e-mailed me a ship confirmation, one week later (to the day) this gorgeous watch had arrived on my doorstep, with a sweet card wishing me a Happy Earth Day.  You guys might have noticed that I am a big fan of the earth, check out the latest on my surface-rights blog here.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the gorgeous watch La Mer, keep up the amazing work! Live your life inspired by adventure!

Leather & Gold

The holidays are full of occasions to play dress up- stay warm and look cool in leather, cream and gold. I’m so excited to finally be wearing this pleated faux-leather skirt I picked up months ago!! Its such an adorable and affordable alternative to the alica + olivia mini I was drooling over!

I’m also excited to be wearing these studded leather cuff’s I just picked up, the day after I bought them, I read a post from one of favorite bloggers, featuring the same bracelet in black- see hers here, I guess great minds do think alike! red lipstain

Something about winter and the holiday season just begs for rosey cheeks and red lips, don’t you think?

What I Wore- Job Interview

On Saturday I had an interview at Sephora! It went really well, and afterwards I handed out a few more resumes, then walked into a restaurant and got hired after an on the spot interview- its a good thing I was already in the zone!

A big part of being able to rock an interview is being confident in what you’re wearing and dressing for the position you want! The perfect blazer, fitted black pants, boots and a white blouse are a fool proof combination! Generally when going for interviews I stick to a black, white and grey pallet, with a pop of color- in this case red! Its almost always better to be too dressy than too casual, I also like to wear my hair up, otherwise I find I nervously play with it! Try a sock bun for a cute and polished look.

The bag I’m carrying is my latest indulgence. When I found a Michael Kors in a consignment store for only $70 I had to have it! Especially since I had recently decided I needed a good quality purse that works for every day. This one was it, perfect size, perfect everything. I love the quilting and the antiqued gold finishing.

day to night dress

I bought this dress at XXI FOREVER almost a month ago and I’ve been dying to wear it! The coral color, the lace- what more could I ask for in a summer dress? The answer to that is a back… which my dress seems to be lacking in.

See I LOVE the low back trend, but without the right bra it can be uncomfortable to wear.. and I don’t want my bra all exposed to the world. So I’ve been searching for a bandeau in the right shade to no avail… they say desperation breeds innovation, well I was desperate to rock my new dress to I MacGyvered it a bit and just went for it.

For a work day look I paired it with a long sleeved white poplin and decided that no label was telling me which way to wear my dress.. so I put it on backwards..

BETCHA COULDN’T TELL? No one at work could anyways..

I accessorized with tan, black and gold.. my favourite snake ring and wedges.

I also bought some new polishes and gave myself an at home pedi. Silver underneath and a sparkle topcoat over top.

as always in the summer i kept my makeup minimal, using the body shop shimmer wave bronzer on my eyes and cheeks, and a coat of black mascara.

I added green drop earrings (they’re actually made to look like tiny leaves, cute! ) for a pop of contrasting color.

simple makeup, simple hair for summer workdays.

Then to take the dress from a day at the office to a night on the town

I removed the shirt and wore it the way its supposed to be worn, which was just slightly too scandalous for the work place, but perfect for a night out.

I put my hair back with a bit more volume and added lipgloss to change it up a bit.

…still need to search to find a bra that works so I can comfortably wear it but for now, I deem this a success!

Whenever I come up with an idea like this, that seems to work out way better than expected I always flash back to one of my favourite movies ever and do this.

if you don’t get it,  I’m sorry, but we can’t be friends…

just kidding! love y’all xoxo. a.
